About Us .........Welcome to DESE Curly-Coated Retrievers. Our love for the Breed first began in 1993 when we met and fell in love with the Curly while attending a dog training class. It was not long before we had our first "slightly used" Curly - Willie. He was truly an ambassador for the breed. He taught us many things about being a Curly owner, as well as how to compete and be successful in confirmation and obedience. In 1994 we purchased our first Curly pup who became our foundation girl - CH Chocca Shaw's Blazin’ Blizzard, CGC. She has passed along many fine breed qualities into our future Curlies and have made us very proud with her prodigy.

About The Breed ............. The Curly-Coated Retriever is a strong and upright retriever and upland game hunter originating from England. The Curly comes in two colors - black and liver. The adult coat is made of tight crisp curls close to the body with a smooth face and front of legs. The Curly is known to be "wickedly smart" and must by kept busy or creativity and chaos will lead to frustration and destruction. They are also known to be aloof, and yet good famly companions, protectors without being aggressive. The Curly ranges in size from 23"-25" at the shoulder for females and 25"-27" at the shoulder for males. They were first recognized by the AKC in 1924.
